From San Francisco, New York, to Paris cities throughout the world went purple in honor of Prince. Prince passed away last Thursday at the age of 57.

The cause of his death has not been determined. Born Prince Nelson Rogers on June 7, 1958, Prince shot up into fame after the release of his soundtrack album Purple Rain.

Purple Rain spun several hits such as “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s go Crazy,” and “Purple Rain.” Prince also won an Oscar for best soundtrack as well as a Grammy for the album.

Prince, who has won a total of seven Grammys, was a diverse artist. He incorporated everything from Jazz, Soul, Funk, Rock and Roll, to Hip Hop into his music.

Known for his leather-tight outfits, high heels, and stylish hair, Prince could sing and dance with the best of them.

He could get you moving to such hits as “Let’s Go Crazy” and slow it down with my personal favorite “Insatiable.”

Prince’s unique style is respected by many and it has influenced such artist as Cee-Lo Green, D’Angelo, and Alicia Keys.

Alicia Keys introduced Prince during his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

After hearing about his passing, Keys said about Prince, “Prince was a gift, a genius, and a reminder that we have no limits…His songs defied all the rules and taught us to let go of boundaries placed on us by the world and by each other. The only person who can keep chains around us and box us up is ourselves.”
